◾️What is trisomy 13?

It is called trisomy 13 syndrome (also known as Patau syndrome) because there is an excess of one on chromosome 13 and there are three, and it is said that it occurs once in about 10,000 live births. The prognosis is poor, and 90% of them pass away before the age of one. There are various illnesses that can be brought to each individual due to the syndrome, but most of them are born with physical illness (often with cleft lip and palate, abnormalities in the brain and heart), growth retardation, and severe intellectual disability. In recent years, with the progress of medical care, the number of cases where continuous treatment and surgical operations are performed is increasing, and children who can live stably even if they are over 1 year old by using home medical care has increased. Some people in Japan have been able to grow to evenover 20 years old.

◾️About PROJECT 13

Down's syndrome in trisomy 21 and trisomy 18 have become commonly known.

We are an organization that started as a group of families with children of trisomy 13 to make them widely known about children with trisomy 13. We run photo exhibitions, social gatherings, and blogs that support and introduce the activities of families with children of trisomy 13.
